Ever thought about cardiovascular health?
Chances are, you’ve thought about blood pressure, heart rate, general heart health and the like…but is that everything we need to worry about when it comes to our vascular health? I’ll admit, I’m out of my depth when it comes to understanding the intricacies of the vascular system. My grandfather, who’s an accomplished vascular surgeon, understands this stuff way more than I do. But the question remains: are there areas outside of the traditional vital signs like heart rate and blood pressure that we should address to promote a higher quality of life, decreased risk of cardiovascular disease, and overall better health for our patients?
My guest this week, Dr. Marc DeBrincat, seems to think so. In fact, he shares about microvascular health and something called the glycocalyx. He also shares a bit about how damage to this endothelial glycocalyx, which lines all of our blood vessels, leads to poor overall health and risk of cardiovascular diseases. He also shares a bit about some supplements that have been clinically shown to improve this microvascular tissue.
